Nightwaves

OK, so I’m not a fan of electronic music and I know nothing about it. That’s why I was afraid and feeling a little reluctant to read Nightwaves. I figured that, with the exception of boredom, I’d get nothing out of it. I was really wrong. Nightwaves is, of course, a zine “for fans and followers of electronic music,” but what I really appreciated and admired was Gary and the other Nightwaves contributors’ genuine passion for the music and creative works of all kinds. This aura of passion was present in practically all of the writing included in the zine. (Confession: I did skip the review of the zoom rfx-300 studio processor and the article about PCs running Win95/98/ME, because I really don’t know what those are-) My favorite piece, and one that I feel is most representative of the overall passion I admire in the zine is Gary’s “Radioland Girl”: “Did I ever tell you about the Radioland Girl?…The most beautiful women my 14-year-old eyes had ever seen.” Nightwaves includes interviews, articles about equipment and gear I’d never heard of, and a great review section dedicated to both music and zines. My only complaint and I know it has been said before: please change the font. It gets irritating after a while. (Audrey Gagnon)
