ZAP!

Oh joy. Oh bliss. Could anything surpass the beauty, grace and wit of issue one of Zap Comics? Uh, yes. I tried. I really tried to find some kind of subtle social commentary or radical deconstruction of the comic form in Zap, but there isn’t any. Having reached the cliffhanger ending of Episode 1, which saw our protagonist Zap machine gun his school principle, pull out a girl’s nose hair and eat it, then get splashed by a passing car, the reader is left with the inescapable conclusion that there is no deep message or hidden mindfuck in these crude line drawings. It really is that lame. About the best that can be said for it is that it loads fast, so it’s over quickly and you can get on with your life. (DW)
