WoWLife

Toronto Webgrrls is a support/networking group for women who have an interest in or work in Internet and new media fields in the G.T.A. The main site offers full details about the group and its activities, but it’s fairly static. To keep up with the latest events of interest to T.O.’s webgrrl population, the members also produce a monthly ezine called WoWLife, which is geared toward professional she-geeks, with career advice, a legal column and profiles of female net-entrepreneurs among the offerings. There are reviews of software, reviews of websites, reviews of parties, and even a review of San Francisco. One editorial in the August issue proposes that girls could be interested in computers at an earlier age if they were presented as an integrated part of life rather than a specialized (and boyish) field. If you’re a webgrrl in need of shelter, there’s also a classified ads section with “We need a roommate” postings from your silicon sisters. There are, unfortunately, no postings from the optometrist you will surely need to consult if you stare too long at the teeny-tiny text this site’s designers favour. (DW)
