Work

Work is the latest incarnation of what started as Impulse! in the early 80s, became M5V magazine, and then disappeared for a while. It s a blend of visual art and cultural theory, with a fairly good instinct for what s accessible and, to a lesser but more important degree, sexy. The issue I saw featured work and/or interviews from John Giorno (moving Maoist wallposters on a world getting empty of everyone due to AIDS), Eve Sedgwick (trendy queertheory type), Ken Lum, Mimi Onodera and Sadie Plant (British writer, notably on the Situationists). Rose Kallal s black and white blow-ups of, I think, engorged labias and clits (boy am I gonna be red if I m wrong) are particularly overwhelming, but the whole package is fair-priced, thoughtful and only occasionally pret
