Vegan Porn

I honestly never thought I could spend an entire day reading fiery message-board posts on the subject of ‘to vegan’ or ‘not to vegan’. As an omnivore with a preference for dead-flesh, I was a little out of my element with this site at first. Usually afraid of the political agendas or supposed health benefits to veganism, I try to avoid the entire discussion for fear that an argument will descent to an exhausted “well…you shut up.” Thankfully, one can learn a lot from veganporn.com.

Oh, that’s right. I should probably clear the “porn” thing up. This site doesn’t include pics of nude, soy-lathered women. The explanation for the “porn” tag is simple: “if porn could do so much for so many things, it might be able to help veganism.” While they are right about porn, the site does help the vegan cause in other ways. The Toronto-based site features daily blog-link updates of happenings in the world of the vegan–thankfully promoting the diet without any self-righteous preaching. The site orchestrated by Jason ‘HT’ Doucette takes the approach to educate rather than attack. With numerous online resources on vegan news, tonnes of links and even a guide to vegan friendly alcohol (sadly, my love of Guinness forever prevents me from going vegan) the site is ripe with information for the curious and the devoted. Of course, I really lose time when I switch over to the forums. And while there are the so-called “typical” vegan rants that non-vegans love to chastise, most are either focused on the diet itself or open discussions to the misconceptions around it.

I’m a lost cause, tempted by the flesh (and Guinness), but for those seriously considering a switch (or just more info) read up on vegan-porn. (James King)
