Time of Orchids, Namesake Caution

This is probably what it feels like to go totally insane. With instrumentals straight out of the Explosions in the Sky “How to be Totally Epic All the Time” cookbook, Time of Orchids combine slow-building guitar, bass, and drum patterns with the keyboard setting from “We Are the World” and vocal harmonies straight out of “Fixing a Hole.” Only instead of rain getting in, it’s just complete fucking madness stopping your mind from wandering. It might be easy to misconstrue such a description as critical of the music on Namesake Caution, but it’s actually pretty great. Just really, really, really fucking crazy. (Sam Sutherland)
