The World is a Heartbreaker

I have to admit that when I picked up this zine to read and to review it, I was less than thrilled to be immersing myself in a “pseudohaiku collection.” Slap to the wrist for pre-conceived notions! This collection was delightful with lines like “when girls are hungry they’re very angry” and “he’d need to be hugged for eight years to be okay.” It’s a series of thoughts, not necessarily connected, although if you stick with it you’ll start to get a feel for Sherwin’s reality. The layout leaves as much to your imagination as do his bleeps of thought, with a simple column of writing running down one page and a simple sketch on the other. I think we should all “pseudohaiku” our fleeting thoughts as well as our more profound ones. Charming. (heze douglas)
