The Spectre

If following issues of Spectre are anything like its wonderful debut, music lovers are in for a treat. Rather than create a zine lauding his favourite bands (that everyone knows about) and countless reviews of records one can sample off the web or in their local record store, Randy cracks open the rock history books and gives us a really interesting lesson. Randy wants to focus on great musicians who have “been reduced to a few scribbled lines, a grainy flickering reel, or a scratchy deteriorated recording”. In this issue he fully researches the mid-80s guitar wonders Savage Republic, right down to their entire discography. It is wonderfully detailed and documented and for an avid music lover like myself, it is now another band to keep in mind when I’m scouring used record stores. For anyone remotely interested in the history of music, this is a zine you will want to keep your eye on. (KJ)
