The Neo-Comintern Magazine

How many zines do you come across that have dinosaur high-school drug stories, battles between the dead sea and black sea (literally), and a guilt-ridden sun which clothes itself and inadvertently kills off all the dinosaurs (not the drugged high-school ones I think). In any case, the Neo-Comintern Magazine is one of the best zines I’ve come across in a while. The zine is filled with haiku’s about blood, elegies to sock puppets, comics and short fiction. None of the pieces come off as laboured, or boring – but are just wildly creative and a welcome relief to the conventional shit you’d normally run into. I particularly liked the short (very short) fiction pieces where the authors open up little pockets of another world for about five minutes, and then close it up again. I feel like I’m not getting into the actual stories enough– but you have to just read it for yourself. I’d ruin everything by clumsily summarizing the stories and then ranting on about how great they are. After all, the issue is titled Perpetual Hype Machine, so I’ll try not to fall into that and just say that I’m glad I’m able to find zines like this one every once in a while. (JK)
