The Diner

This is made by four teens from Quebec. I loved the little illustration they have of themselves on the back cover. Zeke details an encounter and friendship she had with a Christian girl, and talks about her questioning of Christianity. Another feature is a complaint about the way a WWF figure is sold. There’s some anti-Pokemon stuff, and interviews with some dudes from the Fat Wreck tour. I really appreciated it when Zeke asked the band Consumed to tell how they feel about Montreal audiences. There are also interviews with No Use For A Name and the Mad Caddies, and some short ranty little articles. I particularly enjoyed the article Le Geek, C’est Chic!. The pieces I enjoyed the most were by Zeke, actually. My favorite CD review is done by Tim about Slipknot: “Don’t buy their CDs. If you want to hear someone screaming stupidly, talk to my mother.” If I was a punk, culture jamming teenager, this zine would be nirvana for me. But I’m not a teenager, and no longer any sort of punk, and I still thought it was pretty good. Oh, and apparently The Diner will soon be called the Fishbowl, but I have yet to see a zine produced under this name. (AK)
