“Asswhine,” as Carrie calls it, is a collection of diary pages-each a comic-from December 11 to 31, 2004. Most of the entries deal with Carrie’s struggles with drinking and drawing; the total effect is one of anxious repetition. At points-after the umpteenth expression of “I feel crappy”-I wanted to throw it across the room. That’s not a bad thing, though: Asswhine is not only about boredom and fear and frustration, it is an experience of all three, and therefore very, very honest. (Amy Lam)
