Sub-Terrain

Now it seems quite a controversy brewed up over sub-TERRAIN’S censorship issue. Some cheered it with verve and others cancelled subscriptions. Now who are we to say one way or another right here in this review, but what’s worth noting is that they’re getting into the fray. All that is even more interesting when you remember that this is a literary magazine. These folks clearly work hard to get a good blend of interesting writing together, highlighted by unconventional, challenging fiction and poetry. As far as quality goes, as with most fiction magazines it’s a mixed bag with some truly exceptional work periodically weighted down by, well, less impressive work. This magazine has a dark side that serves it well, and, as ever, getting below the surface digs a hole in the heart of complacency.
