Five short stories by the British writer David Rose, and what short stories they are! Rose writes with fascinating precision and elegance. The stories are all written in distinctively different styles, making his characters and ideas all the more striking. There are a few moments when the narrative becomes muddled, particularly in the last story, but you could do a lot worse than picking up this little anthology. (Alex Boger)
