Streetnews

Streetnews is one of the publications that have sprung up around the world that are created and sold mainly by the homeless. What makes Streetnews more interesting, and more readable, than many of those others is that Streetnews actually writes about issues that affect the homeless. This issue feature articles on inexpensive places to eat, the decline in single-room housing, and changes to B.C.’s Welfare Act. The only jarring note is struck by a full page of completely incongruous horoscopes (“This is your time of the year to truly play and delight in the joys of the world”? “The pleasure that you derive from luxury and art will particularly delight you”?). Still, you can’t have everything, and most of what you get is pretty good. (KR)
