Son of an Onion

Once again I’m surprised at the ability of a teenager to write about music in a way that I find interesting. Call me jaded but I’ve spent too much time hanging out in record stores with my nose buried in music mags to be easy on some tyro’s “discovery” of indie rock. That said, I’m happy to give the thumbs up to sixteen year old Susan who has mastered the fine art of the band interview at such a young age. Issue #1 of her zine contains long and chatty interviews with By Divine Right, some guy from Treble Charger and the Devil’s Advocates (not exactly musicians but whatever). Issue #2 has equally illuminating conversations with the New Grand, the Inbreds and Bionic. She might have lucked out by choosing such effusive musicians to rap with but I know from experience it’s not always easy to get a guitar god to blab, let alone reveal something new. (TD)
