The Bedsprings Talent Show CD is not as bouncy as its name, but it contains solid performances. Recorded during a house concert on June 19, 2004, this album is a simple recording of a low-key and intimate show. It comes with a pamphlet of comics and doodles. Jason relays a "story" about chemotherapy drugs. Jon-Rae Fletcher plays a spartan acoustic set with moments of forlorn country-flavoured jamming and yodeling. This album gives a better sense of his music and personality than his goofily earnest press photo that appears in publications like NOW Magazine. Kat Burns is a confident and percussive guitar player. Her lyrics are intriguing. She even name checks this publication in Closet Genius: "he's been living at the edge, broken pencil marks in his arms." Oh, maybe not. (Grace Ma)
