Red & Black Notes: A Magazine of Socialist Discussion

This slim newsletter packs a punch with its thought-provoking excerpts. This issue’s theme is broadly about radical leftist strategy and theory and its translation into practice (or praxis). One article tackles the inadequacy of a traditional left’s conception of a ‘vanguard’ and envisions revolutionary practice originating among the working class of all types (not just industry) and the importance of revolutionaries learning from various and diverse struggles and not just preaching to them. In a translated excerpt from the Solidarita group in the Czech Republic, the social, historical and economic travails of the Roma peoples (the so-called Gypsies) are examined and related to recent rise in xenophobia and Roma immigration and the concern that has caused in some countries (including Canada). Whew! Heavy stuff but always interesting. They welcome feedback and criticism. (RT)
