If you think you have encountered great writing in zineland, then you have not yet discovered the immense, inscrutable talent of Melissa Williams of Woodstock, Ontario. Williams is a poet of the obscure who cloaks her feelings in prose poem explosions and wonderful stick figure scrawls – all of which suggest a person mildly unsettled by the world around them: “Up from this sprang a worry of being brand new at a something, at trampling out a new medical affliction path for the still expanding Smith family (triumphant as ever at child-birthing). ‘Please hand me a paper stating the cause!’ she daily did scream in anticipation of a settled diagnosis, too many doctors sought dressmakers to then fix their tugged-at trousers and special pale coats, as her anxieties triggered a troublesome physical violence (whatreactionscanbe).” I’m telling you. There’s great stuff in here. (HN)
