Pig Farmer

Psychodelic doodles brought together by the master of whimsey and whining, the patron saint of itinerant scribblers, Dr. Marc Bell (he got an honorary Phd at the University of Broken Pencil). This features the abstract meanderings of Mark Connery, Amy Lockhart, Jason McLean and of course Bell. As Bell warns in his letter to us (see letters page): “this is not a comic story by Marc Bell. It is not a comic book. There is no story.” But, nevertheless, I still couldn’t help but wish for some kind of narrative thread, not a story per se, but some kind of thematic flow that would bring all these cute, ugly, horrifying, stupid, intricate, wonderful drawings together into something bigger. As it stands now, this is amusing, at times even entrancing, material, but it’s too much of a hodgepodge to make a really lasting impression on the reader. Which is maybe the point. (HN)
