Palookaville

Palookaville

A man attempts to escape his crippling anxieties by becoming a fan salesman. He heads out to a small town, where his first sales attempt is a dismal failure. Doesn’t sound like very promising material, but in the hands of comic craftsman Seth, this installment of long running series Palookaville is fascinating. Interior, utterly gripping and strangely unsettling, Seth captures the mood and aura of both his neurotic main character, and the 1950s small town he walks through, a desperate sleep walker trying to escape himself. The panels are detailed but simple, crisp lines, shades of blue and gray, all we need to enter Seth’s brilliantly imagined universe. (HN)
