Orange and Blue

This zine is kind of cute and quite thick considering the $2 price tag. Could the low cost of this zine be attributed to Isabelle’s renegade photocopying spree? A whole section of the zine is dedicated to the detailed description of Isabelle and her accomplice’s adventure in sneaking into school after-hours to make use of the photocopying machine and dabble through enough paper-related materials to make most zinesters wet. Isabelle has been stealing more than just photocopies. She provides us with a list of what she’s stolen so far: a pillowcase, a clock, white chalk, a strange a menu from a Chinese food restaurant. She’s not exactly stealing cars, but Isabelle is surprised at her own klepto streak. “I’m a snatcher,” writes Isabelle. “I snatch up stuff. I’ve done it a couple of time since January 1st and every time it just made me feel really excited.” Probably the best thing she’s snatched up for free is the storage space to her old Quebec City apartment. When Isabelle moved out of her apartment she decided to convert the storage space into a makeshift hotel room complete with a sleeping bag and padlock for the door. She spends the night in storage whenever she comes back to her old stomping grounds and parties with her friends. Pretty ingenious! There are also a few zine reviews tacked on in the back that are worth a look. The zine is also available in French and is translated by Isabelle herself. (Audrey Gagnon)
