Old School Beat
There’s hybrid fandom going on here, taking it back to old school funk and video games. The writing is like something you’d expect to hear on the streets of Philly, with lots of bombs, breakbeats and “good old_fashioned FOWNK” peppering the prose. Profiles of Ms. Pac_Man and Galaga are written with gusto, as is the wildly enthusiastic “Fast Food Hall of Fame” bit about Burger King’s Rodeo Burger. Kick_ass record reviews (complete with their own funkometer rating) make this a solid and worthwhile read all the way around. (DF)
