New Muse of Contempt

I like a good story. “The Story of Riverbank Mary” by Brenda Donald is a good example. So is the story of what Kim Fahner thinks of Dan the hipster in her poem, “Too Funky.” I don’t care if it’s a short story or a really short story. K. Green says a lot about marital purgatory in six lines. Mark Sutherland says a bunch in three words, “glasses lasses asses”, repeated and repeated. To get the whole story, you need to see how his words appear on the page. Sometimes writers use all the big words they know and still don’t end up with much of a story. That’s some trick, but it doesn’t do much for me. I would tell you who does that in this zine but that sort of telling of tales gets me in trouble. So I’ll say nothing. (TD)
