Never Again! The Newsletter of Anti-Racist Action Alberta

It may be a stereotypical view of Alberta, but one tends to think that if there’s one place Anti-Racist Action could be useful, this would be it. Unfortunately, the newsletter doesn’t make it clear if that’s the case. To be fair, ARA seems to be a relatively new phenomenon in Alberta, and future issues may prove to be more interesting and insightful. This issue has articles outlining what ARA is, and what can be done to support them. It has a chart of racist symbols to look out for, and short articles on the limited actions ARA has taken so far in Calgary and in Lethbridge. There’s also a piece cheering the Supreme Court’s decision in the Delwin Vriend case which forced the province to include sexual orientation in it human rights protections. This is heartening because some anti-racist groups practicing direct action tend to fall into a pose of macho exclusion. (KR)
