Misfit Toy

In the spirit of the claymation masterpiece “Rudolph on the Island of Misfit Toys,” now several decades past, comes a zine of the same flavour. While I myself prefer islands over zines (one day, I’ll review islands, just you wait) this zine accomplishes some pretty darling stuff. It also doesn’t hesitate, as spookymonkey warns us in the introduction, to be a bit sad. Toys offer an interesting way of accomplishing this through their particular nostalgia. Although there are some non-sequiturs within the saga of the misfit toy, (sometimes only a picture is needed, for example) this is still a rather cohesive issue. The electrical tape on the spinal staples is a nice touch…thank you, spookymonkey, for thinking of our fingers. (Carolyn Tripp)
