MagMyr: The Resurrection: From the Writing Notebooks of Louwan Jehu

This is a collection of poetry, short fiction and drawings. It’s a little stiff and self-consciously literary, although the first poem has some nice assonance-y stuff going on. What’s really endearing about the zine, though, is the way the author comments on her own work – there are detailed footnotes, generally way longer than the pieces themselves, describing how they were written, what they made her think of, what they mean, and so on. It’s nice to see the underpinnings of the struggle to create laid bare like that, and it’s refreshing to see somebody taking their writing so seriously. (Wendy Banks)
