MagMyr

The painful scars of days past are packed away in the swan song of MagMyr. A mere 16 pages in length, Magmyr is a combination of poetry, fiction and tidings put forth by the zine’s creator, Cathrene Gehue. At times it is a little bit self-indulgent and tedious, but by keeping the content varied and vitreous, Gehue manages to avoid the trappings of many other self publishers. The whack index that adorns the front cover is another plus. By mapping things out early on, you’re able to carefully plan your journey through the publication…not unlike a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. Truthfully, there is little to be found of a personal nature aside from the Writbits entries; yet by reading through the various stories and poems, the reader still manages to get a pretty singular insight into what makes Gehue tick. The impression I got is of a cherubic young lass who likes literature, likes to party, likes free thinkers and loathes closed thinkers (or was that clothed thinkers?). No matter, this eighth and final edition of MagMyr dresses the wound quite nicely and sends Gehue back into this crazy, mixed-up world with a kick to the shins and metal box full of dreams documented one issue at a time.
