Lumpen

This is really a very high-quality freebie covering political and activist stuff as well as music, movies and culture. I’ve never seen this long-running publication before, but I wish I had. This issue contains a mind-boggling 11-page article explaining, in thoroughly well-researched detail, how George Bush Sr. was really the mastermind of the 2000 election (or “selection”, or “Coup 2K” as they call it). The strategies used by Bush Sr. to rig elections and arrange coups in a great many countries during his years as head of the CIA and as President are very clearly shown to have been utilized to put his own son in power. Much of the reference material cited would on its own stand as proof in any court of law — that is, except maybe the Supreme Court, what with its purchased judges. It’s truly an earth-shattering article, pertinent to Canadians as well in that it sheds light on many of the same advanced tricks used here by politicians to dismantle health care and force city mergers. It’s nice to read such a piece in a magazine which isn’t a preachy activists-only type of thing—if it gets too heavy you can peruse the unpretentious music and film reviews, read about the Puppetistas or “naked performance artist” Katherine Chronis, or dig into some of the other well-researched essays. Well worth its price – a stamp. (Louis Rastelli)
