Liliane

I have been a fan of Liliane since I read her short book, Assume Nothing. Her cute black and white cartooning style makes you fall for the characters. In 2004, Franson started doing a page-a-day online and gave up paper versions of her stories. But for the technophobes and techno-incompetents out there, she has revived the “hold in your hands” version-and boy am I glad. I had the pleasure of reading Dog Park pPick-up, in which a 20-year-old dyke cruises Liliane in the dog park. They end up back at Liliane’s place for some pretty strange sex. It makes her realize quickies can “leave a little something not desired” as well as making her feel old. In Follicular Fraud, we watch her again picking up at the dog park, this time wearing her “Lady Godiva wig.” A handsome guy offers her tennis lessons, and, after thinking about getting sweaty and hands-on, she buys herself a racquet. The next time she runs into him, minus the wig, he doesn’t know what’s hit him. She looks like a dyke and likes girls, but she’s partial to boys, and that makes her a bi-dyke. She has a funny debate with other dog walkers about shallow pick-ups. In addition to her fun stories and kick-ass drawings, Franson gives you the goods on other great comics, queer books, and the like.
