Lifelike

“I exist because I can and it’s endlessly interesting even when it’s boring. I like to exist. I like to be aware of my existence and choosing how it drips free.” Lifelike is essentially a diary. A remarkable one. Reading Chris Binkowski’s words, it’s clear his life is very different from mine. I’d rather not imagine having to choose between the possibility of a tracheotomy and death. But even though I don’t have Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, I was struck by how familiar his basic daily thoughts are; his epiphanies about politics and humanity, uncertainty about relationships, and midnight self-analyses. I felt like these could be found in everyone’s heads. They’re in mine at least. Maybe it’s just the two of us. (Evan Dickson)
