Libel!

Intriguingly packaged in an inter-office mail envelope – you know the kind you can’t lick that teachers used to put notices to your parents in, with a little piece of red string that winds around a little circle – Libel the Lit Zine immediately made me think back to those boring school documents like report cards and field-trip permission forms. Nevertheless, the poetry in here is pretty damn good. There’s work by j.a. LoveGrove, and the funny cut-out sign that says “In case of riot, break glass.” I hate to admit it, but I actually like the two pieces by Rob McLennan. If I’m reading this correctly, it only costs poets $8 to submit their work to Libel, the “new kind of literary magazine” from Edmonton. At $5 a pop, the zine might seem a bit dear, but you don’t only get Libel, you get to be insulted to boot: “What the hell are YOU looking at? Buy it, you cheap son of a goat!” (EPW)
