Ladyscientist

I’ve never come across a science oriented zine before. I’m sure they’re out there, but this was a first for me. And a lady scientist at that, my favorite! Susan starts off her first issue with a “heroine fix”, some of the accomplished ladies of science for us to admire and look up to. This comes with a little match up game too. There’s an interesting piece on “Imposter Phenomenon,” a questioning of your worth. I think many of us can identify with this phenomenon, in or out of the science world. There’s a cute but very complicated (for the unscientific) piece on the parallels of knitting patterns and DNA patterning in which Bustos takes on a knitting project to better analyze and predict her protein’s structural dynamics and interactions. Whoa! There is also a substantial section on Spanish, German, and U.K universities that she visited to investigate for a possible Science post-doc. Although there were points of interest in this section, I got a little iced out by her criteria, but to each her own I guess. This zine is very much a meeting of the right and left brain; crafty scientists delight me. (heze douglas)
