La Revue des Animaux

La Revue des Animaux

This is the most recent issue of a poetry magazine which has been around for about ten years. I’d heard of it long before I saw it, and at the launch it was obvious that it still holds a prominent place among local poetry publications (i.e. the place was packed.) This issue has a great silk-screened Julie Doucet cover, and is labeled the *special pitounes!* It’s an all_woman issue, as always featuring a wide variety of poets and writers, some of which are probably not usually poets and writers. The work all has a casual tone which is a pleasure to read, nothing’s too heavy_handed, serious or pretentious here, it is all very well done. The 35 or so writers each loosely ponder what sex and the idea of sluttiness can still mean in this day and age. Replete with illustrations by over a dozen women artists (including Fidele Castree and Gigi Perron), this is one of the most classy, entertaining books of poems I’ve yet seen. (LR)
