Kill Music Dead

This slim new zine is a monthly promotional freebie published by a punk rock club called The Brickyard in Vancouver. I presumed it would be a vehicle for the club’s own listings, but it’s actually much better than your typical advertising rag. The first issue is primarily comprised of short bios of acts appearing on the calendar, but the subsequent issues have scaled back the listings and focused more on feature acts through tight, well-written interviews. The change is a huge improvement. Issue 3 features Mystery Machine, Pigment Vehicle, Local 808, and Stagmummer. This is a handsome little package that performs a service for both the club and for music fans in general, since most of the acts covered are routinely ignored in the mainstream press. Other clubs throughout Canada should consider such an enterprise. (DF)
