Jones Av.

The Antipodes issue of Jones Av. contains poems from authors presenting wide perspectives. Perhaps that is why this issue is “antipodes” which is defined in the zine as being “diametrically opposite (to each other).” Although nothing is obviously diametrically opposed with placement of the poems or even content, the subject matter is diverse. All of the poems are really appealing, most notably pieces by Jordie Albiston, Coral Hull, Ivy Alvarez. Joy Reid’s “The Wedding Dress” is by far my favourite. She describes a dream-like recovery of her mother’s wedding dress which she tries on, frustrated tears it and tosses it aside. Certainly opposing emotions are displayed, but overall a bitter sweet dream. (LR)
