Index

Index exists to support the independent publishers who still manage to produce books, organize readings and generally give a vitality to the small but fervent Montreal indie publishing scene. Index, like Toronto’s Word and Vancouver’s Verb, is part of a new movement in the Canadian underground lit-scene (if you could call lit that). These free publications are to be found lying around in bookstores, cafes and gutters. While Toronto’s Word probably has the most, information, Index is still my favourite. Eclectic reviews (pas de chance’s Snacks and Mediatribe: Concordia’s Underground Journal of Communication Studies), short fiction (ibi kaslik’s animal/human prose parable beast& eggshell borders animal fictions & birdbrained theory) and helpful listings — which could, of course, use some expanding. So c’mon lit-types, go get indexed.
