I’m Going to the Store Now

Greydyn is in high school and her zine is “created especially for teenage girls.” I’m an ex-grad student and therefore not a teenage girl. The zine is your typical cut’n’paste odds’n’sods (comix, book reviews, etc.) In cases like this, I usually like the personal diaristic stuff (because I’m not a teenage girl, this stuff is news to me and I find it illuminating if not entertaining) and hate the music stuff (because I have spent a large portion of my life hanging out in college radio stations and know more about music than most teenage girls). Greydyn is an exception. Unless the cultural milieu of high school has radically changed in the last ten years (and it quite possibly has), Greydyn is the coolest grade ten student I know. She interviews Japanese hyper-spazz-core quartet Melt-Banana for chrissakes! And she writes CD reviews with the snarky cynicism of a record store clerk. Greydyn knows of what she talks. I see a large record collection and a lifetime spent complaining about opening bands in her future. (TD)
