Horror Vacui

This book blends short stories and illustration to make a kind of word-heavy comic book. There are stories about Montreal, cheating girlfriends, and pregnancy and, while the ideas are interesting, Amanda Crawford’s writing isn’t particularly expressive. The same can be said for the art, in fact: technically proficient, but unexpressive and therefore rather dull. The characters never reach the imagination, failing to grow beyond two dimensions. Crawford clearly has potential, both as an artist and a writer, so perhaps the reviews of Horror Vacui five or six will be gushing. (Evan Dickson)
