Glamour Guide for Trash

For a ‘zine with such a fine name, Glamour Guide for Trash proved to be a bit of a disappointment. Oh it was an average music ‘zine, but nothing particularly stood out. Most of the reviews and interviews were with US and UK ‘indie’ sensations. They love PJ Harvey. So okay, she’s cool. But that doesn’t justify not one but two reviews both which say how much they love PJ Harvey. The interview with England’s echobelly was enjoyable, in particular the part when Joel says: “who influenced you?” and lead-singer Sonya says “I can’t give you a list of names of famous people so easily. It’s characteristics in people who aren’t necessarily famous” so Joel goes “What are some of your favourite bands?” Sheesh. Still, Sonya was almost interesting (a surprise) and Mark’s article How to Snap Someone Down (“pronounce all your ‘S’s’ and ‘T’s’ — this adds fury to your fire”) contained the kind of whimsical verve I expected from Trash.
