Girl Cult

Obviously, the first issue touched a, uh, soft spot. Because Girl Cult is growing — scores of contributors have sent in poems, drawings and advice. It’s not surprising of course. The perks of being in the Cult include in depth dildo and sex toy reviews, gay and lesbian clippings galore, pics, interviews (Mike Todd talks to Wayne/Jayne County), stories and, of course, poetry. There are a lot of poems in Girl Cult. Probably too many. Phillip Cairns’ Future Connotations is pretty awful, especially when compared to some of the much tighter and more intelligent poems like Pamela Brown’s he didn’t think (there was a problem). At any rate, internal debate rages in the form of intelligent essays like Mira Friedlander’s Erotica and Pornography. For some, joining the cult is simply a matter of recognizing the indispensable nature of divirgent sexualities. For others, the cult is an evil force lewdly undermining rigid notions about sexuality. My dad picked this zine up, flipped through it and said, “this is smut.”
