This double issue of Fireweed consists of excellent reprints from “grrl” zines along with outstanding original writing on the theme of being a girl. Standout pieces are a reprint from “any girl” on Rosaleen’s abortion, “kissing her with a cold sore” by Zoe Whittall, “queens in the summer” by Lorraine Hewitt, “The Museum Exhibit” and a monologue by Debra Anderson. Of course I’m merely scratching the surface of this publication so I’ll put it to ya this way; when I was in Toronto and went to the launch of this double issue with a couple of friends. I walked away with more than 144 page book, I walked away with a smile on my face and hope in my heart. (GS)
