Filler

slick zine publisher: Dave Fisher main creator: several editors $4 or $15 for 4 588 Dogwood Lane, Waterloo, ON, N2L 4X9

Interviews make the girth of Filler. Substantial interviews with Killing Joke, Sloan, Eric’s Trip, Pavement, Come, Silver Jews, and on and on and on. Each interview begins with background information and some measure of opinion, and then good questions aire asked and answered and the whole thing works. Sprinkled here and there with article/essay/fiction like “the oxymoron of commercial alternative radio” and “Tastes like Chicken” (a piece on cannibalism) and “Killing Douglas Coupland”, Filler stuffs each issue with text in varying fonts, illustrations and photographs. It’s about music and really doesn’t veer off course. They also include record reviews, and good ‘zine reviews. Basically, Filler might be too produced to be called a “‘zine”, but whatever you want to call it as far as content they’ve done a great dead of good work and the whole thing hums along with a ton of stuff, and is as substantial as it feels.
