I’m typically a pretty huge fan of biographical comics, but there’s just something about Fate Night that rubs me the wrong way. I read “House Painting” and here’s what I learned: Candace smokes pot. I read “At the Bookfair– Part 1” and here’s what I learned: Candace is a vegan. These obvious attempts to categorize herself are a tad overwrought. In the year 2004, I doubt many readers are going to be intrigued or even remotely piqued by these admissions, and the above offered little more than a label. Still, there were some redeeming qualities about Fate Night. The drawings were cute and maintained a strong consistency throughout. In addition, Candace provided some great little appendices that assigned dates and context to each of the comics. (Cameron Gordon)
