It’s a pleasure to see a young comic artist develop a style step by step. Last time around we reviewed a mini-comic that showed much promise. Since then, ‘la petite Fidèle Castrée’ has kept busy contributing pages to various zines (such as Mr. Swiz, Kerozen, and Fish Piss) and released this well-made first full-length comic zine. The adolescent plotline — the misadventures of a penis lost in the big city — can be forgiven, considering that she wrote it while still adolescent. There’s a very skilled storywriter emerging here, though, something often hard to find among comic artists whose main strength (and interest) is drawing, not writing. Already, though, this is a past chapter in her development, and her next project, an eighty-pager (in English this time) should be out by the spring. (LR)
