Drown Soda

Sara Jane is way cool, she tells it like it is and is a self-proclaimed bitch. She doesn’t stand for any shit and neither do her contributors. Queen Monica, for one, explains her “Don’ts At the Bar” which includes: Not looking at her breast, “They’re mine, not yours!”, not expecting to grope her, not being the fulfillment of male fantasies when she is with her girls; and, my personal favourite, not underestimating her tolerance for drink. Once you get through the unintelligible review of her drunken Halloween party and the even longer interview with the band Hotel, Sara Jane’s fiction piece is certainly a “Nice Accessory.” What I enjoyed most was Sara Jane’s “infiltration” of Canzine. In her blunt way, she describes a scene of disappointment. She exclaims discomfort, and a hope for solicitation to give her an interest to buy or even check out different zines, but alas, she receives only “bitter stiff-upper lips.” She provides titles to zines she received a good response from at the fair containing a brief synopsis of content and content info. But, her rage ensued from the underlying schmooze of the “old boys club”. Is she correct? We’ll see this year. (Lara Atkins)
