Double Bill

This “Final Issue” of Double Bill sends William Conrad and William S. Burroughs to the grave. The gist of the whole magazine is that Conrad is an overlooked genius and cultural icon, in contrast to the perverse, untalented and over-hyped Burroughs. Accordingly, the tributes flow for the former, while the writers piss on the corpse of the latter. The magazine straddles a fine line between satire and authenticity, but it’s totally entertaining and thrown together with a lot of style and effort. In addition to the biographies and testimonials, there’s a ton of cartoons and images and found-excerpts creating a montage that makes for a great fanzine, not to mention a stimulating counterpoint from today’s pop-cult underground.
