Doll House

Veteran Windsor based artist and agitator Mark Laliberte sent me this very creepy cool book, chronicle of a 1999 show of reinterpreted dolls with Magdalen Celestiono, Dave Darcy, Francoise Duvivier, and Catherine Heard. If you have any interest in these artists, or the more general topic of dolls and their purgatory in some weird space between static objects and dream projections, then you should pick this up. Laliberte’s essay is well written, and the photographs of the work in the exhibit are crisp and chilling. This bevy of decaying trolls ain’t your old GI Joe, son. As Laliberte points out, “a little fantasy goes a long way.” (If you write Mark, don’t forget to request a couple of “Obscure Collector” trading cards.) (HN)
