Desert Dreams 2

DD2 begins with the words: “I think searching is a part of being human, i just wish there was some rest in it.” Creator Kathleen MacKenzie has pasted together another beautiful issue, done the old-fashioned, hand-made way. Her prose is intimate and personal, and the lines have been glued on top of photocopied body parts. Semi-indecipherable black and white forms create a backdrop for the global truisms, over-riding sensuality and search for emotions and feelings that we all share which is communicated through her often bleak, but never desperate words. For example, “Sometimes I wonder why you love me. This is not a self-pity thing, it’s just a question.” is copied onto see-through transfer paper which rests against a bodily curve that resembles a woman’s back. This is a zine that will greatly appeal to the voyeurs among us. (EPW)
