So this is a poker zine that provides the rules of the game and a number of variants that are way too tedious for a non-card shark like me to figure out. I was hoping for something a bit less pedestrian. How about some anecdotes, poker-film reviews, gambler profiles, card art, famous games, international competitions, the history of poker, anything other than dry old rules that I could look up in a book if I wanted to. Or I could ask a grumpy old fart like my dad, and he’d show me how to shuffle cards like a dealer in Atlantic City. And who the hell needs to send away for the rules to poker?! Next thing you know, there’ll be a tic-tac-toe zine. Are we such a bunch of TV-addled ignoramuses that we need to be taught basic cultural touchstones like poker, yo-yoing and stella-ella-olla. What has become of our youth? (TD)
