Kilfoy’s illustrations might not be featured in The New Yorker anytime soon, but what they lack in technical proficiency, they more than make up for in candor and spirit. In fact, I’d argue that these drawings perfectly capture the nuances of the dialogue Kilfoy puts forth. Danny is a messed-up suburban youth with a head full of crossed wires and a canned vegetable for a penis. By allowing the dialogue to scribble and bleed across the page, Kilfoy effectively establishes his style and allows it to grow and adapt to the story being told. In this issue, things come to a head with a weirdo two-page spread of mashed dialogue and splattered drawings.
